Cracked Heels (Heel Fissures)

πŸ‘‰πŸ»Main Causes

Cracked heels are mostly due to dryness and pressure, not just vitamin deficiency.

1] Dry Skin (Most Common Cause)

      *Low moisture in skin
      *Winter season, AC exposure
      * Hot water washing
      * Not using moisturizer

2] Prolonged Standing / Walking Barefoot

   More common in housework, temple visits
   Excess pressure causes skin to split

3]Open-back Footwear / Hard Slippers

         Reduces moisture retention

          Increases friction

4] Medical Conditions

         * Diabetes
         *Thyroid disorders
          *Eczema or psoriasis

Role of Deficiencies (Secondary Cause)

Deficiency alone rarely causes cracks, but it can
worsen healing:

Vitamin B3 (Niacin) – severe deficiency may cause skin dryness

Vitamin B7 (Biotin) – affects skin & nail health

Iron deficiency – causes dry, pale skin

Omega-3 deficiency – reduces skin elasticity

πŸ‘‰πŸ»These are supporting factors, not the main cause.

Treatment & Care (Most Important Part)

Daily Heel Care

Apply urea-based or lactic acid heel cream twice daily

At night: thick cream + cotton socks

Avoid walking barefoot

*Weekly Care

 Soak feet in lukewarm water for 10 minutes

 Gently rub with pumice stone (not daily)

  If Cracks Are Painful or Bleeding

Use liquid paraffin + urea cream

If infected (redness, pain): doctor-prescribed antibiotic cream

*Diet Support (Optional but Helpful)

πŸ‘‰πŸ»Nuts & seeds (omega-3)

πŸ‘‰πŸ»Green vegetables

πŸ‘‰πŸ»Eggs, milk (biotin)

πŸ‘‰πŸ»Dates, jaggery (iron)
