Do Not ignore swollen feet (Oedema)

*Swollen Feet — Detailed Medical Explanation

Swelling of the feet happens when excess fluid builds up in the tissues. It is a symptom, not a disease by itself. Here’s how the conditions mentioned in the reel can cause swollen feet:

1) Liver Disease (Liver Cirrhosis / Hepatitis / Fatty Liver in severe stage)

✔ Why swollen feet happen:

~The liver makes a protein called albumin.

~Albumin keeps fluid inside blood vessels.

~When the liver is damaged, albumin levels fall.

[Low albumin = fluid leaks into legs → swelling (pitting edema).

✔ Other signs of liver-related swelling .

       Swollen abdomen (ascites)

        Yellow eyes/skin (jaundice)

        Easy bruising

         Fatigue

         Loss of appetite

*When to worry:

         Swelling in both feet

       Associated fatigue + jaundice

        This requires medical evaluation.

2) Heart Disease (Heart Failure)

 Why swollen feet happen:

{ When the heart becomes weak, it can’t pump   blood properly.}

 Blood backs up in the veins of the legs.

This increases pressure → fluid leaks out → swollen feet & ankles.

*Other symptoms of heart-related edema:

Breathlessness (especially while lying down)

Chest discomfort

Rapid heartbeat

Fatigue

Swelling in both feet that worsens at the end of the day

* Typical swelling pattern:

     Soft swelling

      Leaves a pit when pressed (pitting edem

3) Low Kidney Function (Kidney Disease)

    * Why swollen feet happen:

 The kidneys normally remove excess salt and water from the body.

          If kidneys are weak

         Fluid and sodium accumulate

           This causes swelling in:

          Feet

         Face (especially morning puffiness)

          Hands

      *Other symptoms:

             πŸ‘‰πŸ»Foamy urine (protein loss)

              πŸ‘‰πŸ»  Frequent urination at night

               πŸ‘‰πŸ» Fatigue

                πŸ‘‰πŸ»High blood pressure

* Swelling type:

 Usually both feet, and sometimes the face too

   4) Low Hemoglobin (Anemia)

        *Why swollen feet happen:

         πŸ‘‰πŸ»Severe anemia → low oxygen delivery to                tissues.

           This causes:πŸ‘‡πŸ»

       The heart to work harder

         Fluid retention due to reduced oxygen

         supply

Fluid leaks into legs → mild to moderate swelling

*Other signs of anemia

      Pale skin

       Fatigue

      Dizziness

      Fast heartbeat

      Shortness of breath

#Other Common Causes of Swollen Feet (Not in picture but important)

Even though the reel highlights major diseases, there are many non-serious causes too, such as:

Long time standing or sitting

High salt intake

Pregnancy

Varicose veins

# Side effects of medicines (BP medicines, steroids, hormones)

πŸ›‘ When IS Swollen Feet Serious?

     πŸ‘‰πŸ» Swelling is persistent for >3–4 days

       πŸ‘‰πŸ»Happens with breathlessness or chest pain

        πŸ‘‰πŸ»Only one leg is swollen (possible blood clot)

        πŸ‘‰πŸ»You have liver, kidney, or heart-related                symptoms
